Back in the Game
This month, my baby turns two. Two years of joy, growth, and unexpected lessons—and two years that mirror my own journey back into entrepreneurship. When I first stepped away, I thought it was the end. But it wasn’t—it was just a small detour, a time to prepare me for the next, bigger chapter. Looking back, I remember the setbacks, the nights of stretching our little resources, and the countless moments when I had to rely on the generosity and wisdom of my treasured connections.
There were times when I questioned myself: Am I really cut out for this? My skills were limited, shaped only by brief exposure to our family’s business. Yet, I refused to let doubt stop me. I invested in myself, pursuing my master’s degree—even though I haven’t finished it yet due to the demands of our company. The lessons I learned, however, were priceless and immediately applicable in a multinational social enterprise. I was determined to do more than just dip my toes; I was determined to dive in.
A decade ago, after putting in my investment to cover my shares, the reality of this journey didn’t fully sink in. It wasn’t until I saw our first seafood products produced by our partner fishing communities—and met them face-to-face—that it hit me. These were real people, resilient families affected by a typhoon, and we were helping 25 of them rebuild their lives. In that moment, I thought: “Damn, I have many families to feed now.” Perhaps this was practice, preparing me for the day I start my own family.
Now, I’ve taken over our old seafood company. With a new team, a fresh business model, and a brand that speaks to my heart, this work is about so much more than business. It’s about honoring my dad’s legacy, empowering fishing communities, and partnering with incredible strategic allies who believe in this mission as much as I do. Every product, every collaboration, every step forward carries purpose—and reminds me that I am part of something bigger than myself.
Throughout this journey, The Greatest Showman soundtrack has been my anthem, lifting me up during moments of overwhelm and uncertainty, and reminding me that courage, vision, and heart are what move mountains. Not everyone will understand this path, but I am forever grateful to the friends, family, strategic partners, communities and supporters who walk it with me. You are the reason I keep going—you are the ones who truly rock my socks.
This journey has taught me that setbacks are just setups for a stronger comeback, that investing in yourself is never wasted, and that purpose is found in the lives you touch. Here’s to growth, gratitude, and the adventures yet to come.
