The Second Time Around

Returning to full-time entrepreneurship for the second time feels both familiar and new. I carry lessons from past ventures, yet every journey is unique—every industry, business model, and challenge has its own rhythm.

Being an entrepreneur isn’t just grit. It’s constant relearning, unlearning, and improving. Humility has become one of my most important tools—knowing my strengths, accepting my limitations, and asking for help when needed. Resourcefulness, courage, and calmness are equally vital, especially when unknown directions appear.

I was reminded of this during a recent mentoring session. My mentee faced operational challenges and asked if I’d experienced the same. Even in similar industries, journeys differ—but sharing our experiences can guide and support others.

People are unique, and not everyone will understand or support you. Some carry ego; some judge without knowing your story. I’ve passed the stage of needing to prove myself. Now, I let our impact, team, and partners speak for our credibility.

Making decisions in business is like getting married. The people you choose—partners, investors, community supporters, even customers—shape your journey. You must be wise, because not everyone will walk with you for the long haul.

What excites me most as a social entrepreneur is the leverage we hold: passion, authenticity, and advocacy. Over more than a decade, I’ve been blessed to build relationships with partners and supporters who have become true ambassadors for our mission. Today, sustainability is no longer a concept I need to explain—it’s understood and valued, making collaboration and impact even stronger.

True legacy, however, comes from empowerment and succession—nurturing the next generation of leaders, trusting them with responsibility, and ensuring the mission continues beyond your own involvement.

Experience gives insight. Wisdom guides you. But authenticity, innovation, empowerment, and community are what transform work into lasting legacy. The second time around, I see this all more clearly—and I’m deeply excited for what’s ahead.
